Spoiler Alert: Dumbledore Is Dead

August 6th, 2006

We went to New York last Wednesday to see “An Evening With Harry, Carrie, and Garp” at Radio City Music Hall. We made a day of it, which was probably a big mistake on our part since it was 100 bazillion bloody degrees out. We ended up giving up on our delusions of taking over SoHo at about 2:00 and just hung out in Macy’s, where the air conditioning was pretty good. Oh yeah, and there was wicked good Korean food in between, too.

The show rocked. Stephen King, John Irving (who neither of us has ever read but now intend to), and J.K. Rowling, in the same room. Neat! I found an article here that describes it better than I’ve a mind to bother with, although the details are pretty Rowling-centric.

Highlights (also Rowling-centric)-

Jo said that she wished she could bring Hagrid to life, specifically so that he could have chats with Fundamentalist Christians. Oh, hee.

When asked, very sweetly and adorably, by a nine-year-old, if Dumbledore was truly the greatest wizard in the world how could he truly have died, she burst into tears.

She also said the words, “You Snape people, you never learn,” which, again with the hee.

I tried to take a picture, but we were up on the third level and it was dark, so they didn’t really come out. Instead, I give you this, which I snapped on the way back to the train:

As the Carrot would say, RAAR!
